Abrefa Emerges Victor In West Hill Open Championship

Ghana’s top seed, Derek Abrefa, emerged victor at the just ended West Hill Mall Open Championship in Accra.

Abrefa, who recently won the Most Valuable Player (MVP)in the Edo State Open Championship, Nigeria, reaffirmed his dominance on the local scene after toppling
all contestant in the championship.

It was a tough tale for the student of the University of Cape Coast and a personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service, as the 24-year-old table tennis star maneuvered his way to the finals eventually defeating Ghana’s second seed Emmanuel Commey by 4-2 in a highly competitive final.

 

Abrefa received a 42 Inches Flat Screen TV and an infinix Zero Note 4 phone, second placed  also received Microwave Oven , whilst Felix Lartey and Emmanuel Asante who finished third and fourth respectively, received Infinix Note 3 Pro.
In an interview with sportscrusader.com, Abrefa said: “I give thanks to almighty God for the strength to win this national competition. Secondly I thank the sponsors of the competition West Hill Mall, Infinix Phone, Compu-Ghana Ltd for this tournament which will encourage us as players to train more and harder.”

He added: ” Also thank the executive of Ghana Table Tennis Association for their effort to illuminate the game. Without forgetting Mr. Charles Tachie-Manson Tesano Club, Mr. Byron White (USA Table Tennis), my personal coach Coach Ebenezer Anang white, My team mates and all my fans who supported me.

“As a player my aim is to train harder to do exploits in other to attract attract sponsors to help reach my goal. I believe with determination and hardwork, everything is possible,” he ended

Abrefa is currently preparing to set another record in the next years’ World University Games in Chinese Tapei, and ask for support to enable his participation.
