Four times Ghana Premier league champions, Ashgold SC, opens up a new chapter in its glamorous history over the weekends without seven of the players that featured last year. The Elephants will be without Fatawu Dauda and Kadri Mohamed when they take to the field in chase of the ultimate trophy in the elite division.
Bashiru Hayford and the Osonu kindred welcomes onboard 2014/15 Ghana Premier league top scorer, Kofi Owusu, who returned to Ghana after a nightmare trip to Egypt. The former Berekum Chelsea goal poacher leads a number of new faces for the mining owned club that includes Magnus Ebo Duncan and Hans Kwoffie.
The first ever Professional league champions on Ghanaian soil, secured the services of Samed Ibrahim from New Edubiase, Magnus Ebo Duncan from Hasaacas, Roland Amouzou from Hasaacas, Joseph Gordon from Medeama SC, Ibrahim Lukman from Tamale Utrecht, Conney Iddan from Medeama , Kofi Owusu, Hans Kwoffie from Bechem United, and Richard Ocran from Dreams FC.
On the casualty list, Kadri Mohamed will be missed at the back for the Osonu family whiles Robert Dabuo will have to take utter control over the post in the absence of Fatawu Dauda. The latter has since joined Enugu Rangers in the NPL and joins a list of other moral absentees for the 2014/15 champions.
The Nuhu brothers will be missed on either flanks at the Len Clay whiles Joseph Ato Bissau, Nafiu Awudu and Eric Opoku look elsewhere for their career.
With goals guaranteed from Owusu and some physical presence at the centre of the pitch from Magnus Ebo Duncan’s arrival, can we rule out Bashiru Hayford from another title at the end of the season? Shapiro and his charges must be respected if any opponent is to avoid human massacre in a lengthy 90 minutes.
