Rafa Benitez has responded to a question about Christian Atsu’s future at Newcastle United.

Atsu came off the bench and scored in last night’s 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic.

The winger, on a season-long loan from Chelsea, was sent on at the DW Stadium with Newcastle under pressure.

And the 24-year-old kept his cool to score United’s second goal.

It was the Ghana international’s third strike for the club.

Newcastle manager Benitez – whose side take on Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday – was asked whether he wanted to sign Atsu permanently.

“At the moment he’s signed for next game with Burton. I’m pleased with that. We don’t talk about market now.”

Atsu – who has had a series of loan spells since joining Chelsea from Porto in 2013 – spoke about his future in October.
