Bechem United beat MC Alger by 2-1 in the CAF Confederation Cup first leg tie in the preliminary round of the competition at the Accra Sports Stadium today.
Osei Kwaku’s 75th minute strike ensured that Bechem United took a giant step towards their continental campaign in a thrilling contest.
The first half started with some high intensity, as both sides look to establish their grasp on the game.
But MC Alger were very strong in the first 20 minutes, as the created numerous opportunity but Bechem United goalkeeper, Isaac Ackon , was equally up to the task, having made good saves to deny the Algeria side the lead.
Bechem United came back strong into the game with Bechem marksman Ahmed Toure trying his luck from 25 yards but Chaovchi Fawzi marched the strike with an equally good save.
Bechem United begun the second half on a good note,and were deservedly awarded a penalty by Referee Sanogo. Ahmed Toure stepped up and gave Bechem the lead.
MC Alger mounted the pressure afterwards, as Secquer Mohammed equalized with a terrific header on 60th minute mark.
There stepped up Kwaku Osei Bonsu who pounced on a lose ball, and struck the home team into the lead after some horrific defending by the Algerian side.
Bechem United mounted a strong line of defence, as they maintained the 2-1 lead ahead of the second leg in Algiers.
