The Executive Committee of CAF has handed Gabon the hosting right for the 2017 edition of the African Under 17 championship. The highest governing arm of football in the continent replaced Madagascar with Gabon after the latter’s internal problems.
The biannual event will head to Gabon in October eight months after the 2017 Nation’s Cup proper on same ground. The Black Starlets of Ghana returns to the competition after their technical ban from the 2015 edition for fielding an unqualified player.
Grouped in same zone as the host, the Black Starlets will have to battle Guinea, Cameroon, and new host Gabon for a place in the FIFA Under World Cup.
In group B, Mali, Niger, Congo and Angola sort it out for the right to book a semi final berth and a place in the global edition of the youthful tournament.
The Ghanaians are led by the veteran Paa Kwesi Faabin going into the Gabon gathering.
