Cape Coast based Elmina Sharks makes their premier league audition at home to Aduana Stars at the newly constructed Ndoum Sports complex. The Sharks stormed out of the water to book their ticket to the topflight in a ruthless manner in zone III of the GN Bank.
Coach Amissah and his unbeaten sides opens their topflight campaign in front of their teaming fans having missed the opening trip to the Wa Park for the clash with Wa All Stars. The Sharks panned out a whopping 28 wins and 2 drawn games in their promotion campaign to announce their arrival to the top tier in Ghana football.
The free scoring side rained home an alarming 84 goals, allowing a paltry 12 goals in the ensuing period in the league. An average of 2.8 goals scored per game highlighted the rampant nature of the newbies ahead of their audition at home to the Ogya Boys.
Aduana Stars on the other hand missed out on the premier league trophy thanks to a penultimate away set back in Wa that ended their title race. A spot kick from Saddick Alhassan kept the points at home and the league trophy as whole. The 2009 league champions have since parted ways with the then trainer Manuel Koelha Zakarios.
The Dormaa based side handed the managerial hot seat to Coach Yussif Abubakari. The former Hearts Of Oak, and Techiman City tactician announced his arrival in Dormaa with the off season trophy, dubbed as the GHALCA FAB G6 tourney.
An opening day win over Ashgold Sporting Club handed the Ogya Boys a winning start to the 2017 Star Times Premier League.
With no competitive ties between the two sides in the league, both teams will be looking to take the bragging rights. The iconic clash between the sides will be the first premier league game at the newly constructed Ndoum Sports complex in Elmina.
