Grant Blames Stade De Port-Gentil Pitch For Ghana’s Exit

Black Stars coach, Avram Grant, has conceded that the injuries to captain Asamoah Gyan and defender Baba Rahman during the group stages at the Stade De Port-Gentil hindered their progress in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Rahman suffered a horrific injury in Ghana’s opener and was subsequently ruled out of the tournament.

Gyan on the other, couldn’t play an effective role for the Stars due to his level of fitness after suffering an injury in Ghana’s last group game against Egypt at the Stade De Port-Gentil.

“Both injuries were due to the pitch at Port-Gentil,” Grant said. “It was difficult to overcome the loss of Rahman and Gyan. The team lost after a very good tournament.”

The Black Stars 2-0 defeat against Cameroon in the semi’s means they will have to compete for Bronze against Burkina Faso in this year’s tournament.
