Former Black Stars player, Laryea Kingson, has questioned the criterion for team selection into the Black Stars as he asserts that, the team’s selection is not based on merit.
The Black Stars had a poor campaign in this years’ Africa Cup of Nations, as failed in their quest to win the trophy again since 1982 when Ghana last won.
Laryea lamented on the quality of players in the Stars set-up, as Ghana coach, Avram Grant, failed to give some players the opportunity to reinstate the claim for selection
into the team.
He said: “I don’t think so, because the Coach refused to give opportunities to most of the players in took there, and I think if don’t have confidence in them, there is no reason why you should take them there.”
He added: “For me I don’t this selection to the National team is based on merit, and it really affected the team.
“In our game against Egypt I expected him to make chances so that as we progressed in the competition, you will know the kind of player to replace the other at any point in time, but it wasn’t in that case,” Laryea said on the Soccer Chat show on GH One Tv.
